The Yankees are heading south of the border.

The team will play two exhibition games against the Diablos Rojos del México at Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City on March 24 and 25, a source confirmed. Puro Beisbol’s Fernando Ballesteros first reported the news.

The Yankees have their last two spring training games scheduled against the Pirates and Mets in Florida on those dates. Those games will go on as planned, the team announced. Meanwhile, ticket sale information for the games in Mexico City will be provided at a later date through the Diablos Rojos.

The Yankees open their season in Houston on March 28.

The Yankees and Diablos Rojos own the most championships in their respective leagues. The Yanks have 27 titles, while the Diablos Rojos have won 16 in the Mexican Baseball League.

While it’s too soon to know who will represent the Yankees against the Diablos Rojos, the club has a few major leaguers with Mexican roots. The group includes reliever Victor González, outfielder Alex Verdugo and catcher Jose Trevino.

The Yankees have not played in Mexico City since 1968. Back then, Mickey Mantle and company visited for a two-game exhibition series of their own against the Diablos Rojos. The two teams split the set.
